Kamera dengan merk Canon sudah tidak memakai film negative (klise) tetapi beralih fungsi menjadi kamera digital. Pada kamera digital, peran film negative diambil oleh sebuah chip berebentuk kartu kecil yang berfungsi untuk menyimpan hasil pemotretan. Ada dua tipe cip yaitu CCD (Charge Coupled device) dan CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor). Cip berfungsi menangkap cahaya dari luar melalui lensa dan mengubahnya menjadi electron-elektron sehingga membentuk gambar digital. Kelebihan dari kamera ini adalah hasil pemotretan dapat langsung dilihat pada layar monitor yang terletak di bagian belakang kamera. Jika gambar yang diambil tidak sesuai dengan yang diinginkan, bisa langsung dihapus. Biasanya kamera digital juga dilengkapi dengan fasilitas zoom yaitu pengaturan perbesaran objek yang akan diambil tanpa harus mendekatkan kamera ke objek, serta pengaturan terang gelap lampu blitz.
